ANHEUSER-BUSCH MAKES $5,000 GRANT TO NORTH ST. LOUIS AGENCY
Funds will support After-School program in economically depressed community

ST. LOUIS, June 27, 2007 - Anheuser-Busch, Inc. has awarded The Youth & Family Center a grant of $5,000 in support of its After School program, which provides children ages 5 to 16, living on St. Louis’ Near North Side, with a safe place to study, to compete in athletics and to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Over 225 children participate in The Youth & Family Center’s After School program, which includes tutoring, computer lab, athletics, educational field trips and evening meal service. In 2006, over 12,000 meals were served to children at The Youth & Family Center.

“We are one of the only places on the Near North Side where kids can come after school to be safe, to find help with homework and to receive a meal that’s desperately needed,” said Herman Noah, Executive Director. “Most of our kids come from single-parent households that are barely earning enough to get by. We’re here to ease the pain for the parents, but more importantly, to make sure that their kids are getting what they need to stay healthy, educated and on-track to find success in life.”

“Sometimes kids just need someone to listen to them,” said Noah. “Other times they need someone to hold them accountable. We’re doing both through our after school program.”

The After School program has been in operation for over 40 years, and each year, a study of area students’ report cards indicates an increased need for the program’s emphasis on the improvement of reading and writing skills. To accomplish the program’s objectives, activities are structured to allow for an intense concentration on the needs and progress of individual children.

The Youth & Family Center has operated on St. Louis’ Near North Side since 1888. Its programs are directed at young people ages 5 to 17 and include after school programs, computer and technology programs, athletics, tutoring and educational programs and life skills development activities.
