Sam's Story
When I was growing up, The Youth & Family Center was my home away from home.
To some kids it was their only source of normalcy. It was the place where we could get away from all the negative activity in the neighborhood.
There was, and still is, an excellent staff who really cared about our well-being and who were determined to make us well-rounded children. They understood that as inner-city kids, we did not have some of the same opportunities that other kids had. They were all role models to us. They genuinely cared.
I can say that as an adult now, I am very impressed with the ways they are still providing kids with a place to go after school and during the summer. Growing up, I faced a lot of peer pressure. The Youth & Family Center was my place to go for fun-filled activities that relieved the pressures I was facing.
I am now the administrative assistant at the Youth and Family Center and I see first hand all of the hard work that is put into the facility to keep it up and running.
Even more, my son is now attending The Youth and Family Center. He looks forward to coming down every day and doing his homework and interacting with other kids. I could not have picked a better place for him to go after school!
