EMERSON CHARITABLE TRUST MAKES $5,000 GRANT TO NORTH ST. LOUIS AGENCY
Funds will connect low-income families with computers and the Internet
ST. LOUIS, Oct. 26, 2007 - The Emerson Charitable Trust has awarded The Youth & Family Center a grant of $5,000 to increase the rate of computer knowledge and ownership among children and families living in low-income households.
“A tremendous need for technology access exists in this community,” said Herman Noah, Youth & Family Center executive director. “We’re helping children complete homework assignments, parents apply for jobs and older citizens research health related matters and stay in touch with distant relatives through email. Without our technology programs, these people would continue to fall behind the pace of society.”
Throughout the 6 year history of the Access For All Technology Initiative an average of 100 computers have been placed in low-income households annually. The Youth & Family Center’s Community Computer & Internet lab is free of charge and open to residents from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily and by request on weekends.
The Youth & Family Center has operated on St. Louis’ Near North Side since 1888. Its programs are directed at young people ages 5 to 17 and include after school programs, computer and technology programs, athletics, tutoring and educational programs and life skills development activities.
