A Message From Our President
Greetings: The Youth and Family Center is continuing to provide much needed support for the youth and the families in our Near North side area, as we have for over 100 years. Of course times have changed and the Y&FC has adapted. Although the Sports programs are still a big draw, our emphasis is on getting children ready to make their way in today’s new world. That means not just familiarity with, but a working knowledge of computers and other electronic equipment. To that end we continue to enhance our computer lab, to offer more computer courses and to distribute more computers to those who pass the courses. We also offer instruction in other electronic equipment like GPS systems to broaden the children’s familiarity. It is working and we are proud of what we accomplish! From a Governance standpoint there has been one major change. The Board has adopted new By-Laws to conform the United Way’s current Quality Standards. The major difference is that now we will have a smaller Board of Directors plus an Advisory Board of individuals who wish to be associated with the Youth and Family Center, but are unable to be fully active. Our thanks go out to our Executive Director, Herman Noah, and his dedicated staff who make the agency work, to our major benefactors whose financial support allow the agency to exist, especially the United Way and the Optimist Club of St. Louis, and to the Board members who volunteer their valuable time to carry out the agency’s mission. Kudos to all! Alois J. Koller Jr. President of the Board
